Aviation Medicals

At Friendship Square Medical, we provide aviation medical assessments for pilots and aviation personnel who require medical certification through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority — CASA.

Aviation medicals are an important part of ensuring that pilots and other aviation professionals are medically fit to perform their duties safely. Our aim is to make the process clear, efficient and supportive, while ensuring the required standards are carefully assessed.

How we can help

Our aviation medical services may include:

  • CASA aviation medical assessments

  • Class 1 aviation medicals

  • Class 2 aviation medicals

  • Class 3 aviation medicals

  • Renewal aviation medicals

  • Initial aviation medical assessments

  • Review of medical history and medications

  • Blood pressure, vision and general health assessment

  • Urine testing where required

  • ECG or other investigations where required

  • Assistance with CASA Medical Records System requirements

  • Referral for additional testing or specialist reports where needed

CASA medical certificates

CASA requires different medical certificates depending on the type of aviation work or flying activity. Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 medical certificates are used for different types of pilots and aviation personnel, and medical assessments are completed through CASA’s aviation medical system. CASA notes that certain DAME2 examiners are authorised to issue eligible Class 2 medical certificates on the spot, subject to CASA’s rules and exclusions.

Your doctor can discuss which type of assessment you need and what is involved.

Before your appointment

Before attending your aviation medical, you will usually need to complete your application through CASA’s Medical Records System — MRS. CASA states that Class 1, 2 and 3 applicants must complete and pay for their aviation medical in MRS before their appointment with a DAME.

Please bring any relevant information to your appointment, including:

  • Your Aviation Reference Number — ARN

  • Photo identification

  • Current aviation medical certificate, if applicable

  • Details of your medical history

  • A list of current medications

  • Glasses or contact lenses, if you use them

  • Any relevant specialist reports, test results or hospital discharge summaries

Having this information ready can help avoid delays in your assessment.

What to expect

An aviation medical generally involves a detailed medical history, review of any current or past health conditions, medication review and physical examination. Depending on the certificate class, your age, medical history and CASA requirements, you may also need additional tests such as vision testing, hearing assessment, ECG, blood tests, urine testing or specialist review.

If further information is required, your doctor will explain what is needed and help guide you through the next steps.

Basic Class 2 and other aviation medical options

Some pilots may be eligible for a Basic Class 2 medical certificate or other medical pathway, depending on the type of flying they do and CASA requirements. CASA provides information about Basic Class 2, Class 5 medical self-declaration and RAMPC options, and notes that a full Class 2 assessment by a DAME may be required in some circumstances.

Your GP can help you understand which assessment is suitable for your situation, or direct you to CASA guidance if required.

Book an appointment

To book an aviation medical, please call our reception team and let them know what type of aviation medical you require.

Aviation medicals require a dedicated appointment and may take longer than a standard consultation. Please ensure your CASA MRS application is completed before your appointment where required, and bring all relevant documents with you.
